The sewn steek that Veronik calls for in the pattern will work just fine with the alpaca.Lizzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12862621767609693624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7437735322926076891.post-20090631480078797512006-12-11T09:05:00.000-08:002006-12-11T09:05:00.000-08:00I wouldn't change the yarn because when you get to...I wouldn't change the yarn because when you get to the steeking, the wool needs to grab itself in order to felt together a bit. The shetland type Whiskey yarn will do this well and although alpaca felts beautifully(I can show you socks that were machine washed by accident), it might be too slippery for a first time steeker. And, as Lizz said, the Whiskey does soften nicely when blocked.FairyGodKnitterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12357221251738514987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7437735322926076891.post-12881053848618782912006-12-11T08:57:00.000-08:002006-12-11T08:57:00.000-08:00It's itchy as you work with it, but it softens up ...It's itchy as you work with it, but it softens up after a wash.Lizzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12862621767609693624noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7437735322926076891.post-1984420177073434422006-12-11T07:14:00.000-08:002006-12-11T07:14:00.000-08:00Interesting. My other problem is that I'm always hot, so wearing a long sleeved shirt under the sweater is not an option.Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17390077167317705805noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7437735322926076891.post-45203582085303119372006-12-11T07:00:00.000-08:002006-12-11T07:00:00.000-08:00To be honest, I'd say it's a bit itchy. I think if you could probably get gauge with Blue Sky sport weight alpaca or Frog Tree...the twist is similar on both yarns and I think they have the same number of plies...Ciriliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10987477605838227778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7437735322926076891.post-3110739597277411372006-12-10T18:35:00.000-08:002006-12-10T18:35:00.000-08:00By this stuff, I'm referring to the Reynolds, not ...By this stuff, I'm referring to the Reynolds, not the alpaca.
